I’ve discovered this app via some rss-feed and i want to report here. It’s simply like any other wiki which use the dokuwiki syntax, the only difference is on execution type. Unlike every other wiki, zim doesn’t require a web server nor php (or every other interpreted markup language).
This wiki is a common desktop-app executable runnable on all platform (win,linux,mac) in which the user can edit/copy&paste/do “editor” like functions.
Where is the magic, is the question… simply this app could be a ready-to-use notepad which collect all files in a subdirectory avoiding thinking stuff like “well, i wrote this stub, now where i could save it, without forget it?”, zim also provide simple but functional text-formatting routines, internal (cross-notes) and external (file or website) linking, images and last (but not least) it support plugins! (for instance LaTex and GraphViz for insert math formula or graphs in you notes).
In other words zim can be a smart notepad for quick notes, a test for pages to insert in your published wiki, or simply a support for your ideas, and if you (like me) have more than one pc, you can use rsync (or other similar tools) to syncronize the notes directory through differente machines.
Spim è un simpaticissimo emulatore di processori MIPS che ha la particolarità di essere completamente multiplatform. Ne esiste infatti una versione per Windows, per Mac e per sistemi Unix generali, tra cui ricade anche qualsiasi distribuzione Linux.
L’autore però non mette a disposizione pacchetti precompilati e, sebbene in alcune distribuzioni (Gentoo,Fedora o Ubuntu 9.04 ad esempio) esistano dei metodi molto veloci per installarlo, per tutte le altre distro la soluzione più veloce e pratica consiste nel compilarsi i sorgenti.
Ovviamente coloro che provengono dalla “vita facile” di altri sistemi Desktop non sono abituati ad un tale lavoro che è si semplice, ma alle volte presenta delle interrogative su quali librerie siano richieste (specialemente quando, come nel nostro caso sul sito dell’autore non vi è scritta una beata fava…)
L’esempio che riporto si riferisce a Debian based e Ubuntu “vecchie”, Ubuntu 9.04, Gentoo e Arch-linux.

Today morning i’ve finished free space on this fantastic palm (Nokia N800) and i say to myself: why not improve disk space? Well, i bought a flash card (sdhc 8GB) for OS, programs and data. Next step, i followed this tutorial on Maemo wiki but i’ve found some errors.
